Don studied at the Bath Acadamy of Art, training to become
an art teacher. His interest in trains started at an early with a fondness for trainspotting and the age of steam.
As 'the age of steam' declined, his interest in the history of railways increased and on a visit to the Clapham
Museum of Transport he saw an exhibition of Terence Cuneo's work.
From this time and with different influences nudging him towards a change in direction, Don began the final steps
away from a teaching career and into the unknown salutation of making a living as an Artist. Don decided to sell
the family home and move away from Reading where he had taught for the previous eight years. After travelling around
for a while he settled in Cornwall to begin this new life. After painting a range of subjects he decided to concentrate
on 'railways' and to his pleasant surprise his work began to sell well.
