IAN PHIPPS
BIOGRAPHY
Born 1946, in Stroud,Ian had a strong feeling for the countryside from an early age. As a boy he was never at home, his time was spent in the woods bird watching and shooting with his air rifle.
His passion for shooting grew enormously, when at the age of twelve, a local wildfowling invited him to spend the afternoon wildfowling on the saltmarsh in the Medway estuary. He was instantly spellbound by the everchanging landscape that greeted his eyes.
He was always trying to draw and paint things that caught his eye at this age and none caught it more than the marsh landscape and the wildfowl. Having obtained a couple of certificates from art school, it wasn't until he turned his hand to oils in 1986 that he started to get noticed.
In 1988 he won first prize in a competition run by The British Associate for Shooting and Conservation, which in turn led to a degree of local success selling his work to others wildfowlers.
In 1993 Ian decided to take it a step further and contact Sally Mitchell. There are now eight limited edition prints after Ian's work which are collected and admired by fellow wildfowlers and art lovers all over the world.
