Nel Whatmore was born in 1962 in Wombourne, near Wolverhampton.
She studied art at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, then moved to Leeds and completed her degree in 1985.
Soon after leaving college she was awarded a grant by the Prince's
Youth Business Trust, which helped her to establish herself as a professional artist. Two years later she was chosen
as one of only seven bursary holders from 1200 applicants to represent the Trust at the prestigious Chelsea Flower
Show.
Nel's main concern when painting is to explore the relationships
between colour, texture and light. She paints a variety of subjects, though she particularly loves flowers, landscapes
and gardens.
