Nikky lives and works in Wetherby, West Yorkshire she studied painting
and three dimensional design at Cheltenham College of Art. Her first job after leaving college was Director of
Art and Design at The Mill Hill School in North London. After leaving London with her husband Alan and raising
their children Martyn and Alison, Nikky has returned to her first love of painting.
'Much of my inspiration comes from the freedom I feel whenever I am close to the sea, I love the contrasts I find
there, the open spaces of the beaches and the higgledy piggledy cottages around the harbours, The reflections in
the calm evening waters and the imvigorating salt spay of stormy winter waves. The reflections in harbour waters
are the basis of my abstract work and the colours I choose are descriptions of the weather and atmosphere, the
time of day and the seasons.'
Nikky's harbour and beach scenes are becoming sought after in galleries throughout the country with their recognisable
quirky boats and cottages and the trademark seagull which appears on each one.
Nikky enjoys sketching where ever she goes, be it walking in the dales
or visiting the industrial areas of the North, when creating her quirky images she will often simplify the details
yet always maintains the quirky humour within a scene.
Nikky paints what makes her smile and hopes that some of that joy is conveyed to those who take the time to look
